چکیده
ÐThe form of a city has a major impact on the lifestyles of its residents. As urban centers grow, careful strategies are required to ensure that the regional quality of life is not adversely aected by this growth. An important strategic consideration is transportation planning. Questions regarding the sustainability of dispersed car dependent urban forms have led to a renewed interest in public transportation. This paper examines access to public transportation and discusses approaches for improving such access. Examples from the South East Queensland region of Australia will be used for illustration. # 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved

A large number of heavy-duty trucks idle a significant amount. Heavy-duty line-haul truck engines idle about 20–40% of the time the engine is running, depending on season and operation. ÐIn this paper we review the theoretical and empirical literature on the cost structure of the provision of intercity highway transportation and specify and estimate our own cost functions. We develop a full cost model which identi®es the key cost components and then estimate costs component by component: user costs, infrastructure costs, time and congestion costs, noise costs, accident costs, ...

In echocardiography, the radio-frequency (RF) image is a rich source of information about the investigated tissues. Nevertheless, very few works are dedicated to boundary detection based on the RF image, as opposed to envelope image. In this paper, we investigate the feasibility and limitations of boundary detection in echocardiographic images based on the RF signal. We introduce two types of R...
